Jessica Priscilla’s Personalized Shoes

Graduated on May 2013, Jessica started off her own shoes line named after her very own name Jessica Priscilla Shoes on August 2013. What does she actually sell? She sells a personalized shoes (loafers) by putting your name initial and you can choose your own shoes color. If you have seen many bags, bag charms, bracelets, wallets or so being personalized, Jessica also seen it and that’s why she picked her line specialty to personalized shoes.
So far you can make your own personalized loafers just by going through the website; www.jessicapriscilla.com. Its made by order just for you, they’re able to purchase not just for women but also men and babies! Just by following their easy step on the web, you can choose your own color, trim color, initial, font. You want to put your very own personalized item there? You can reach them via email for further details. What’s better about it? They can ship overseas.

I met Jessica on that one fine rainy day, she looked lovely wearing her own personalized loafers in red.

“I personally like anything personalized, like I’m just the only one who has it.” She said when I asked her why she started this business.

Getting things to be ready on your own isn’t something easy to do. Especially when every part of the shoes is all handmade, means all checked and controlled by hands.

“I am doing all the simple things by my own, from the design, production control, marketing, even the customer service part!” she explained it excitedly.

Seeing that excitement I guess it’s right when people say, do your job with your whole heart then everything else will follow. And not to forget, I see another ‘when you do a work that you love, you won’t have to work for the rest days of your life.’ kind of job when I met her.
No job comes with no circumstances they say, with all the hard work, all the problems during the process,

“When I heard that they love my shoes, all the hard work is paid off.”

Released their first special design on Christmas season last year, they’re not so fast being satisfied. When I asked Jessica about what’s her dream about this business, she allowed us to know something before hand.

“I’d like to have a showroom, a place that people could drop by just to see and try sizes, checking on the materials, color and so. If you have any idea about that 3D thing that’s recently booming? I have my mind on that thing also.”

She also said that expanding the product is necessary as well. It won’t be forever loafers. Same thing as the design, but I guess it won’t be fun to spoil every detail here and now, right?
Check their updates and get your very own personalized loafers through their official instagram: @jessicapriscillas, or Facebook page: www.facebook.com/jessicapriscillashoes or even better you can go directly to their website www.jessicapriscilla.com

Local Brand "vanishing&vound"

"For me, what you wear is the main point in creating the first impression for others. How you present your self, how you wear things, will speak more about who you are, even before you open your mouth." -- Stefanie A. Santoso

It was a quite good evening in Surabaya when i met Stefanie. We both decided to meet at a tea shop, and start to talk about her local brand business. Have you ever heard of Vanishing & Vound? Well, if you're interested in local fashion, or being a fashion entrepreneur, do make yourself comfortable to read this one out.

Started in November 2011, exactly a year ago from now, Stefanie told me that she was inspired by Australians local brands back there some times ago when she was studying graphic art in Sydney, Australia.
"I like going to Sydney's suburb like Peddington, Newton, Surryhills, those kind of place that sells a lot of Australian local brands. And those brands that actually inspire me to make Vanishing & Vound."
So after she graduated, and came back to Surabaya, based on her passion and love in fashion, she made her own brand which is, Vanishing & Vound.

  • classy vintage
  • collection available for both woman and man
  • price starts from Rp.120.000,- and above. average prices at Rp.200.000,-
  • produced in limited quantity

She's doing it all by herself, with a support from her Mom and Granny also from her sister earlier before, she start it with drafting the design, choosing the fabric, make the pattern, do the selling and marketing. All of them with one body.
"Its a tiring work. But what i like the best about doing it is when i am looking for the inspirations. Magazines, laptop, papers everywhere. I could doing it all night and not sleep even a blink!" she told me excitedly.
Stefanie said it by herself, her design isn't that complicated. But she really take concern with the fabric. The design might be simple, if you compared it with Jakartan fashion designers, but for the fabrics, she's having fun playing with that to satisfy her customers.
Fashion bloggers like Gary Pepper VintageSass & BideSaveusVanishing Elephant also The Kooples are her favorite.

She also takes men fashion in her collection. When i asked her why? She simply said, its not just women that need to be fashionable, boys also need to be one. And proved, until now she's still making for men's wear or means the boys also like it!

So far, the youngest customer is 14 years old, and the opposite, you wouldn't guess it... its from 14 to over 40 years old customer is reached with Vanishing & Vound's design. The elder take it as a nostalgic style from their era, while the young one take it as unique, simple or lets say it as classy vintage to fill their fashion wardrobe.

Since November 2011 until now, in a year period of time, Vanishing & Vound produced 3-4 collections. And with that collections, they've been around in Fashion Bazaar like at Lenmarc Mall (the latest one), Ciputra World, Tunjungan Plaza. "Truth to be told, Bazaar is a good way to reach people and make relationship with them. Although it's very tiring, but its a good market catcher."

Even though she's doing all the work by herself, that tiring yet loathed by responsibilities to handle, this 20 years old girl said to me she won't stop and satisfied with what she has right now. Her goals for Vanishing & Vound in the future is to make an open up store and make couple shirt collection. Thanks to the lovely customers who always support and asking "Where's your new collection?" "I want to go to your house, i want to see your collections." & still so many more that makes her wants to continue in the rough time.

Are You Team Green or Grey?

Breaking Dawn Part 2 is finally here. After all those ups and downs story from the main characters in their real life, they're finally looking good together at the premiere in Los Angeles, the movie itself will hit the theater this Friday, November 16th 2012. Got yourself a ticket yet?
After the couple back together and the premiere night is saved, Ms. Stewart's dress is one other thing that people talk about. Wearing a dress from Zuhair Murad this Fall collection, that "old times-awkward" Kristen seems gone.

That nude, strapless, lace and see through dress is just one of Kristen fashion transformation compared with the old her, of course in a good way. This 22 years old Lady, not just this time, rocks what she wears.
And what did Robert wear to catch her up that time?
This 26 young British man was wearing bright emerald Gucci green suit. So its green and nude-gold? What do you think?

They did a good job actually. Kristen over all look gets a lot of good feedback, more after her scandal before. So if they call this a comeback after the storm? Guess they made it.
Not forget to mention, Twilight also still has one lead male actor. Yeap, the werewolf, Taylor Lautner.
Guess its just me or he's getting skinnier? Chose to wear all grey look, Taylor Lautner looks more relax doing his premiere looks taken. Did he get the inspiration from Christian Grey or not, we have no certain answer for that.

Run the Fashion. (New York Episode)

“The fashion show is not only the promotional linchpin of a multibillion-dollar industry, it was also central to the development of the American department store—and thus to the rise of American consumer culture.” Amanda Fortini; www.slate.com

This fall, when you have Twitter account and follow some fashion magazines, your timeline will be overloaded with all the Fashion Week updates. Name it, from New York, Milan, London until Paris fashion week were crushing the timeline and of course the fashion industry.
When was that event actually begun? Why the fashion industry need runway?
One of the American answers is the statement above. But here I found some facts about the history of the Fashion Week.

“According to Steele, the event got its start in 1943, when a well-known fashion publicist named Eleanor Lambert organized something called "Press Week." Lambert was a canny PR maven who recognized that it was a propitious moment for American fashion. Before World War II, American designers were thought to be reliant on French couture for inspiration. When the Germans occupied France in 1940, one of the ensuing calamities was that buyers, editors, and designers were unable to travel to Paris to see the few remaining shows, and the fashion world fretted—would American fashion founder without the influence of French couture?” – www.slate.com

And after that, a lot of American press wrote about it and it made American designers risen up and make their more American label. They say American label are more modern, streamlined, and flattering.
By 1910, many big department stores are opened, including Wanamaker's in Philadelphia and New York. And the idea of Fashion Parade/Runaway founded as an effective way to sell and promote their merchandise.
Reaching the 1920’s, fashion show had became mainstream. They were usually doing it at tea time/lunch inside the store.
The show finally moved to Bryant Park since 1990. And its more modernize, centralize and organized.

“Fashion Week—like Press Week before it—helped American designers reach a more international audience, as it allowed editors, writers, and buyers from abroad to see the country's best work at a single time, in a single place. But even though it can feel these days like it's always Fashion Week, the average American woman is now more removed from the fashion show than ever.”www.slate.com
