Gangnam Authentic Korean Restaurant

Found out a new Korean restaurant in town, which has a very authentic taste yet the price is not pricey at all! Located at Plaza Graha Family A 18-19 (near Hokky Graha Family, behind Loop & Dapur Cokelat) this place is surely worth a visit if you're a fan of Korean cuisine!

Ssam Gyup Sal (right) only for 70k-ish and taste 9/10
cold noodle in the middle we chose the original taste one (sorry i forget the name) its sour its cold but its soooo good 8.5/10 - 50k-ish

to tell you this one is the bomb, its Tteokpokki with ramyeon. Big portion you can just order this for two for just 45k. Its a bit spicy (Korean kind of spicy yes) and a bit sour, the tteokpokki doesn't has that annoying texture. So, I'll give this one 9.5/10

I have no rules when it comes to Korean food. The best mixture that comes into my mouth is when i have the noodle soup in a spoon, give it some ssamgyupsal at top end it with some tteokpokki ramyeon. Delicious beyond words.
This place isn't that booming, i really wonder why! Maybe its not so fancy, but yes we came here for the glorious food. It comes with a very reasonable price as well. Like, you don't have to pay for 200k or more just for slices of meat? Which taste so-so. You can bring just 100k and you'll get some Rps saved yet your tummy is bloated already.
And i also find out the reason that the ajjushi himself who cooked in the kitchen, so you will not rare to see that his customer is mainly Korean people, who talk Korean.

Overall review: 9/10

Historica Coffee & Pastry

What happened in town lately is there are so many brunch cafes that pops up. Its a good thing I say, its a good thing. I'll do another recap for the other cafes but this one will go for Historica Coffee & Pastry.
Located in the heart of the city, Jl. Sumatra 40, Surabaya this one is somehow catch my intention by its industrial concept.

As one of their sibling complex, Historica open daily from 7 am - 11 pm. Last order for the brunch set is at 3 pm, later than that you can enjoy their pastries. But yes, they serve coffee all the time. My first experience there was a pleasant one for me. The valet service is good and not pricey (10k), means they know people need that service because i am not sure if 5-8 parking lot in front of the cafe would squeeze up the number of the customers. Once you're in you're going to queue to place your order. Yep, you pay first then you'll get it delivered to your table.

I am loving the ambience, even the place isn't so big and the outdoor space is very hot during day time, but the price placing is just right for me.
This is what I order and i recommend to you to order as well once you decided to go there.

Egg Benedict (45k)
this one probably my favorite egg ben all over the town. The sauce is good, the egg is good, its all worth the price. You know some restaurant often wants you to pay too much for something which is very nice to have it daily like this.
Croque Monsieur (45k)
Its very simple yet delish one. You might think that "is that it?" but the portion is actually huge! a generous cheese inside you won't even ask for more.

Ice Mocha (or you can have it just Mocha) - (36k)
I don't know about the other coffee taste, but i like this better than Starbucks. And that statement i guess already explain you something. Its not that kind of very good coffee, but yes its good! I guess the barista still adjust how Surabayans like to have their coffee, not that strong in taste, but strong enough for me.

Either than that i didn't pay really much attention for the pastries, its a bit overpriced for me to have a tiny bit of dessert for around 30-45k in town. It would be different if they place that price for something that's new or something that people crave for.

Rate: 4/5
I'll come back again? Definitely.

D.I.Y. Fair - Creative Business on The Move (Event)

First of all sorry for the late post, i know by whatever reason late to write and post is just late. Anyway i am still pretty excited to share what I've visited on October 13th 2013 at Surabaya Town Square. This event was D.I.Y Fair, they were calling every creative business people and do the fair together. Just trying to be honest, i was a bit disappointed with the numbers of the tenants but that's just one thing. Here are some pictures that i managed to catch during that day.

Not trying to brag them to you again, but i met Vanishing & Vound team with their as usual, lovely decoration in their booth. This time? They brought over a friend, De Korf.

their ties collections "Lost in Summer Route"

the new friend, De Korf collection.

the team of Vanishing & Vound / De Korf.

Not so far from this booth, i also met Venus Aretha, the girl behind her 6-days of brand preparation Artsy Bitsy. You must be surprised if i tell you, she's still currently 18 yet already achieved  her double bachelor Major in Communication & Business. She was a bright and nice person when i met her that time, i even more got shocked when she told me she prepared Artsy Bitsy in just 6 days to D.I.Y Fair event. Fyi, this is the very first time, they're going public.

When i asked her when was the first time she made these creative handmade things? She said, it was all started with a ribbon. When she was in junior high, she and her friend were get bored because their hijab looks so plain. That time, the ribbon idea came up to her mind and started to be a trademark.

"You can ask me make it depends on your demand. I'll try to variate it with pattern and colors depends on where are you going to use it. Like, leather or lace accents."

Expanding it not only to be creative with ribbon, here are some pictures to show you what she has prepared in six days time. My personal favorite? is the 'write-it-yourself' jar.

The price range isn't that pricey. When i asked her about that, she said the production process is already efficient so she could pull down the price and she's still keep working on it. Ever seen Harry Potter or Hunger Games Trilogy? This is a new concept that she brought over, on a bag. You can request it yourself.

"People usually put up their favorite brand, but here you can put anything you like."

Last but not least, Venus also mentioned this is not just going to be an online shop, but also she wants it to become a community and workshop that people can come and see how things work in Artsy Bitsy.

From a rising local brand, to batik brand and people that just came up with an creative business ideas. Might be right to sum up what this event is all about.
