Local Brand "vanishing&vound"

"For me, what you wear is the main point in creating the first impression for others. How you present your self, how you wear things, will speak more about who you are, even before you open your mouth." -- Stefanie A. Santoso

It was a quite good evening in Surabaya when i met Stefanie. We both decided to meet at a tea shop, and start to talk about her local brand business. Have you ever heard of Vanishing & Vound? Well, if you're interested in local fashion, or being a fashion entrepreneur, do make yourself comfortable to read this one out.

Started in November 2011, exactly a year ago from now, Stefanie told me that she was inspired by Australians local brands back there some times ago when she was studying graphic art in Sydney, Australia.
"I like going to Sydney's suburb like Peddington, Newton, Surryhills, those kind of place that sells a lot of Australian local brands. And those brands that actually inspire me to make Vanishing & Vound."
So after she graduated, and came back to Surabaya, based on her passion and love in fashion, she made her own brand which is, Vanishing & Vound.

  • classy vintage
  • collection available for both woman and man
  • price starts from Rp.120.000,- and above. average prices at Rp.200.000,-
  • produced in limited quantity

She's doing it all by herself, with a support from her Mom and Granny also from her sister earlier before, she start it with drafting the design, choosing the fabric, make the pattern, do the selling and marketing. All of them with one body.
"Its a tiring work. But what i like the best about doing it is when i am looking for the inspirations. Magazines, laptop, papers everywhere. I could doing it all night and not sleep even a blink!" she told me excitedly.
Stefanie said it by herself, her design isn't that complicated. But she really take concern with the fabric. The design might be simple, if you compared it with Jakartan fashion designers, but for the fabrics, she's having fun playing with that to satisfy her customers.
Fashion bloggers like Gary Pepper VintageSass & BideSaveusVanishing Elephant also The Kooples are her favorite.

She also takes men fashion in her collection. When i asked her why? She simply said, its not just women that need to be fashionable, boys also need to be one. And proved, until now she's still making for men's wear or means the boys also like it!

So far, the youngest customer is 14 years old, and the opposite, you wouldn't guess it... its from 14 to over 40 years old customer is reached with Vanishing & Vound's design. The elder take it as a nostalgic style from their era, while the young one take it as unique, simple or lets say it as classy vintage to fill their fashion wardrobe.

Since November 2011 until now, in a year period of time, Vanishing & Vound produced 3-4 collections. And with that collections, they've been around in Fashion Bazaar like at Lenmarc Mall (the latest one), Ciputra World, Tunjungan Plaza. "Truth to be told, Bazaar is a good way to reach people and make relationship with them. Although it's very tiring, but its a good market catcher."

Even though she's doing all the work by herself, that tiring yet loathed by responsibilities to handle, this 20 years old girl said to me she won't stop and satisfied with what she has right now. Her goals for Vanishing & Vound in the future is to make an open up store and make couple shirt collection. Thanks to the lovely customers who always support and asking "Where's your new collection?" "I want to go to your house, i want to see your collections." & still so many more that makes her wants to continue in the rough time.
